The images below show some recent full tests on tie rods as part of our ongoing quality testing and development by our Technical Director Axel Hagemann
The tests consisted of full scale tie rods 85mm diameter ASDO500 grade with upset M100 threads tensile loaded to destruction.
The sample tie rods were gradually loaded in tension until finally breaking at 3,800kN (387 tonnes) with classic "cup & cone" ductile behaviour. The tests were successful with the calculated design resistance being met.
Anker Schroeder can supply tie rods up to 160mm diameter x 18m diameter in a single piece with bespoke upset forged ends. Full scale load tests up to 2,000 tonnes and 3m long are possible for design justification – please contact our technical or sales department for more detail.
